“The wet Louisiana heat kicked her in the face the second she stepped onto the rolling stairs. The tarmac was misted with early-morning damp, the smell of diesel and oil mingling with the remains of the escaping storm she’d clearly slept through. Or not slept through, as the case may be. To all around her, she was just enjoying a drug-laden nap; but inside her bone closet of a mind, she was once again traveling through her past, dreaming of a time and people she thought she’d left far behind.”
